Woman found injured in Barrie backyard dies in hospital: police

by zain

A woman found severely injured in the backyard of a home near downtown Barrie this past summer has died from her injuries, police say.

“I can confirm that the woman found injured in June did pass away in hospital earlier this week,” said Barrie police spokesperson Jennett Mays.

Whether or not there’s any criminality in relation to the woman’s injuries and subsequent death has not yet been determined, Mays added.

The investigation is ongoing, she said, adding detectives with the Investigative Services Division are “exhausting all leads and information available.”

The victim, a 50-year-old Barrie resident, was located injured and unconscious behind a Henry Street home on June 5, just before 6 p.m.

No information as to how she was injured or if police were searching for a suspect was made public at the time of the incident. However, police officials have previously said there was “no criminal element” involved.

Police have put out several public appeals in recent months as they searched for witnesses, including a request to speak to a few people who were waiting for a bus at Anne and Donald streets on June 4 at around 9:30 p.m.

In surveillance images supplied by police, there is one person shown with a walker, one with a bicycle and a pedestrian.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes any of these people to email the investigating officer at jwatt@barriepolice.ca.
