Know Your Worth and Own Your Future

by London Post

Prof. Fatima Zaman

A woman who knows her worth never needs permission to own her future.” For generations, women have worked hard to prove themselves in their families, workplaces and communities. Women have made remarkable progress in education, business, healthcare, politics, science and many other fields. Yet even today, many women still feel they need someone else’s approval before taking the next step in their lives.
I believe every woman should understand one simple truth: your value does not depend on someone else’s permission or approval. Knowing your worth means understanding your abilities, respecting yourself and believing that your dreams matter. It does not mean thinking you are better than others. It means having enough confidence to recognise what you can achieve and refusing to allow fear or negativity to control your future.
Many women spend years putting other people first. They care for their families, support their partners, raise children and contribute to their communities. These responsibilities are important, but a woman should not have to lose her own identity while caring for others. There is nothing wrong with having ambition. There is nothing selfish about wanting an education, building a career, starting a business or following a dream.
Sometimes the biggest barrier is not outside us; it is the doubt inside us. We ask ourselves: “Am I good enough?” “What will people say?” “What if I fail?” My message to women is simple: do not allow these questions to stop you.
Failure is not the end of the journey. Every successful person has experienced disappointment, rejection or mistakes. What matters is having the courage to stand up again, learn from the experience and continue moving forward.
Education and financial independence can also play an important role in empowering women. When women have knowledge, skills and opportunities, they can make informed decisions about their own lives. But empowerment is not only about money or professional success. It is also about having a voice, being respected and having the freedom to make choices. We must also support one another. Women should celebrate the success of other women rather than see each other as competition. When one woman opens a door, she should try to keep that door open for others. Mentoring, encouraging and supporting another woman can change a life.
Men also have an important role. A stronger society is created when men and women respect one another and have equal opportunities to contribute. Empowering women is not about taking something away from men. It is about allowing everyone to reach their potential.
To every young girl and every woman reading this: believe in yourself. Invest in your education. Develop your skills. Surround yourself with people who respect your ambitions. Do not be afraid to speak up, take opportunities and dream bigger. Your future belongs to you. You do not need permission to believe in yourself. You do not need permission to grow. And you certainly do not need permission to become the woman you know you can be.
Know your worth, believe in your ability, and own your future.
