Manchester:
The Labour Party has started its election campaign in Manchester for the local elections to be held on 7 May. In this connection, a special event was held at Fallowfield Library, where senior party and local community leaders were also present. Cllr Ali Ilyas welcomed the guests and party members and stressed the need to run a strong campaign. Those who addressed the meeting were Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester; Lucy Powell, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Member of Parliament; Jeff Smith; Afzal Khan; Mike Kane; and Cllr Bev Craig. Councillors and workers from different wards expressed their commitment to run a strong election campaign in Manchester.
